What do my dental X-ray results mean?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I want to seek your opinion about my teeth X-ray results. I am having trouble deciding what to do.

Please guide.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.

I have seen your X-ray (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity), and I would like to provide some information regarding your dental health:

Let me explain the side with a single crown. The condition of this tooth (the tooth in the middle of the first X-ray) and whether to retreat its root canal and place a crown, or extract it, depends on clinical examination, history, and a third X-ray, a CBCT (cone beam computed tomography). Kindly visit your dentist for an exact treatment plan.

The teeth on the left and right sides of the same X-ray need root canal treatments and crowns afterwards.

Regarding the second X-ray, in which you have two adjacent crowns, these crowns need to be remade because they have gaps underneath, and new decay is starting to form at the junction between the crown and the underlying tooth. Additionally, you have a pocket in the gum between these two teeth, making this area difficult to clean.

As a result of these improperly fitting crowns, you may experience food trapping, bad odor, and new decay formation. Therefore, it is recommended to remake these crowns with new ones that fit the teeth better and maintain proper contact between the teeth to preserve gum health.

If you have further concerns, do not hesitate to seek professional guidance.

Please feel free to follow up with any further questions.

Thank you.
