Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

In a past incident, I had an accident while I was in class 11. I missed my exams so I failed. I am very short-tempered and got very angry because even students worse than me were passed by biased teachers. As I was furious, I took a decision to move to a new city and repeat class 11 again. I went to another state and was admitted in a nonattending school. I never listened to anyone during all these things. I was a bright student till class 10. I scored 81 % in class 10 and so I was very embarrassed and shocked by the thought of repeating class 11 again.

After that, I took private tuitions. I was never really interested in science, but I took science just to please my father although he did not force me to take it. And so things got normal day by day and I gave my 12th examination this year. I knew I would not do good, but I never thought of getting a compartment in my paper. I am totally shattered right now. I have sent my papers for rechecking including math in which I got a compartment. All college forms and dates of application are getting over day by day. I have no clue about my future. My parents are also very hurt and shattered. Every day I try to console myself but I break into tears. I am very depressed at the moment. I am not able to sleep and not able to study as well. I know I have the capability to do something, but I do not know why this is happening to me again. I cannot figure out anything. Kindly help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for your query.

First of all, I would like to mention that sometimes you neither have control over the situations nor about what others do, but what is in your hands is how you cope with it. Though you are having a hard time right now this phase shall pass. You are still a bright student. One failure does not take away that from you and believe me, you can surely do good.

Kindly do a self rating test of depression like Zung's self rating depression scale which you can easily find online and if it is indicative of moderate to severe depression, I suggest you consult a psychiatrist in person for a detailed evaluation and treatment.

Besides following things can help:

  1. Meditation daily for at least half an hour in the morning helps you relax and focus.

  2. Spend at least one hour daily for your hobbies.

  3. Follow a flexible routine and exercise regularly and take a balanced diet rich in antioxidants and omega fatty acids.

  4. Study smart, study in small shifts of half an hour followed by five minute rest. Set small feasible targets and try to achieve them, reward yourself if the target is achieved and be patient and do not worry if you do not achieve the target.

Remember every problem has a solution and you just need to try solving it. Remember that help is just a step away.

I hope this information helps you. Feel free to reach out if you have any further questions.

Thank you.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
