What could cause a shadow around an existing mole that itches regularly?

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am curious about this weird shadow around my mole. It itches regularly but is right where my waistband sits.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern.

I have the following questions:

  1. Is the pigmentation around the mole since the beginning or it has started recently?

  2. Is it increasing in size if started recently?

Sometimes some moles have associated peripheral pigmentation which is normal but if it is itching then it can be due to infection or allergy. Please update me on the same for further comments.

Regards.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for your reply.

I do not honestly know because it is on my back. The mole itself feels normal but the skin around it feels slightly rough. I have had all my moles checked in the last two years and they were all fine but I have never taken note of this shape before.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I would suggest you do not worry. Let us rule the causes one by one. I suggest you start on topical Luliconazole cream (if it is available in your country) for a minimum of 15 days and take a tablet of Levocetirizine 5 milligrams at night if it is itching severely. If it does not resolve with this treatment we will start treatment for allergic dermatitis after 15 days. Consult your specialist doctor, discuss with him or her, and take the medicines with their consent.

I hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
