Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I have a condition involving a pimple-like bump or wart on my wrist, although I am not sure exactly what it is. It has been present for more than five years. It is painless and does not appear to be growing. I used a corn cap, which removed the surface portion, but there is still a bump remaining. It feels slightly hard but does not seem to be attached to the skin. When I try to pinch it, it stays raised.
Kindly advise.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand how confusing and worrying it can be to have a long-standing skin bump, especially when the exact nature of the lesion is unclear. Sharing a detailed history is very helpful.
Based on the description and appearance, the lesion looks like a small, well-defined, dome-shaped, firm, pinkish nodule on the wrist with smooth overlying skin. This is most likely a dermatofibroma, a residual wart, or post-treatment scar tissue.
Corn caps containing salicylic acid remove only the superficial keratin layer of the skin. Deeper tissue often remains, which explains why the surface portion was removed, but a firm bump is still present.
In either case, this type of lesion is usually benign and not a cause for concern. The slight softening or reduction in size noticed with Baycoten N cream, which contains clotrimazole, neomycin, and betamethasone, may have occurred due to reduced surface inflammation. However, this medication does not remove the core of such lesions, and prolonged use should be avoided because it contains a topical corticosteroid.
A simple topical antibiotic such as Bacitracin and Polymyxin B ointment (Polyfax) or a healing cream containing Sucralfate may be applied for five to seven days if there is any surface irritation.
It is recommended to avoid further use of corn caps, acids, or combination steroid creams. Squeezing, pinching, or repeated manipulation of the area should also be avoided. If removal is desired for cosmetic reasons, procedures such as electrocautery or laser removal can be performed by a qualified dermatologist and usually provide good cosmetic results.
I hope you are satisfied with my answer. For further queries, you can consult me at iCliniq.
Thank you.
