Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
My one-year-old was just switched to whole milk. She is now been experiencing really bad diaper rash and five to six bowel movements a day for about four to five days. Could this be a milk allergy?
Kindly suggest.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and understand your concern.
As per the limited information provided, she is having mild fever and runny nose along with bowel movements. These suggest a viral infection. Regarding diaper rash, repetitive loose motion can cause rashes.
Switching over to whole milk, does it mean she was on formula milk before or was exclusively breastfed? If she was on formula milk (which is also cow milk), and if she was doing well with it, then it does not go in favor of cow's milk allergy.
I suggest these medications -
Syrup Chlorhistol (Chlorpheniramine maleate) - two ml (milliliters) twice daily for three days.
Otrivin pediatric nasal drops (Xylometazoline hydrochloride) - one drop in each nostril, three times daily for three days.
Pedialyte ready-to-drink solution (oral rehydration solution) - 75 to 100 ml after each loose motion.
Syrup Paracetamol (120mg/5ml) - 5 ml as and when fever of more than 37.9 Celsius.
Miconazole (antifungal) skin ointment for nappy rash - Apply a small quantity two to three times a day for three days.
Consult your specialist doctor, discuss with him/her, and take the medicines with their consent. Continue the regular bland diet and milk feeding.
I hope this helps.
Take care.
Regards.
