Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My baby is 5 months and 4 days old. He has been suffering from loose motion for the past ten days. I went to the doctor, and he said it was due to teething. He gave medicines ut it did not help. Everyone said that in teething medicines work only 10 % Please help me. I am worried about hish ealth, and please suggest what should I give him besides milk. The doctor also advised to stop feeding him. Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome toicliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

Your baby is suffering from acute gastroenteritis. As told by your physician, in fact, this is the age for teething, due to which the child has irritation in the gums and tries to insert everything in the mouth. This causes a gastrointestinal infection and results in diarrhea. I have gone through your doctor's prescription, which seems fine to me. Do continue breast-feeding your child more frequently. Give syrup zinc for 14 days, as advised. Some probiotic suspensions are helpful in building up gut flora to counteract diarrhea early. Please have patience; the diarrhea will improve.

Generally, antibiotics are not prescribed. The need for antibiotics is to be evaluated based on the condition of the baby and investigations. Look for signs of dehydration and urine output. If you suspect the same, please visit the doctor immediately for a re-evaluation.

I hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
