Why am I experiencing loose motion despite taking treatment?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have been suffering from acute loose motion for one and a half months. I have gone under all medications, but nothing has helped me. I doubt if it is due to pest control. What steps should I take to manage this?

Kindly advise.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern.

Diarrhea occurs due to many reasons; the causes depend on the consistency of stool, the presence or absence of blood or mucous in stool, and the frequency of diarrhea in a day. There are several other factors also.

You can take treatment empirically, or you can discuss your problem in detail. It is always better to discuss in detail first and then decide on the treatment.

I would suggest the following investigations that need to be done:

  • Complete blood count (CBC), liver function test, Ca (calcium), PO4 (phosphate (phosphorus), ALP (alkaline phosphatase), tTGA (tissue transglutaminase antibodies). To get done three days of stool examination for ova (parasite eggs), cysts (parasites), blood, and mucus.

  • Take tablet Nitazoxanide 400mg two times a day for five days.

  • You can include more yogurt, rice, and lentil porridge in the diet.

  • Avoid milk, fruit juices, and cold drinks for two weeks continuously.

The first two pieces of advice are absolutely necessary. Please get all these investigations done from a reputable and reliable lab.

I hope you are satisfied with my answer. For further queries, you can consult me at iCliniq.

Thank you.
