Why do I have pain after taking Loperamide for diarrhea?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have been suffering from diarrhea since this morning. Yesterday, I ate chicken at the roadside shop. I took a tablet (Lomofar). But after that, I feel pain in the right side of the spine. What should I do?

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com

I read your query and understand your concern.

I’m sorry to hear about your symptoms. We hope to help. However, I did not understand it completely. You took medication after having diarrhea. Lomofar or Loperamide is a medicine that can make symptoms worse if the diarrhea is from certain types of infection. You may be suffering from gastroenteritis, infectious diarrhea, or any foodborne illness.

Based on your symptoms of having new and seemingly intense pain on the right side, we would suggest that you consult a doctor in person to evaluate your abdomen and make sure you are not having any other concerning symptoms or physical problems. Emergency room evaluation may be required for severe pain, an eight out of 10 or higher.

Please go to the nearest clinic and be seen today. They should do a physical exam and laboratory testing if needed. We do not recommend that you treat this on your own. Stop taking Lomofar (Loperamide). I suggest you to incorporate a bland diet.

Please follow up with us within 24 hours after you have been seen in person.

I hope you are satisfied with my answer. For further queries, you can consult me at iCliniq.

Thank you.
