Is it normal to have blood clots a week after 11 days of D and C?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I underwent D and C 11 days ago, and yesterday I had a lot of blood and large blood clots. Today is my 11th day, and for the moment, the blood is less than yesterday, but I am scared.

  1. Is it normal to have light to moderate vaginal bleeding on the 11th day?
  2. Should my blood become less by now?

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern.

By the 11th day, the bleeding should have stopped. If there is excessive bleeding with clots, then there could be an incomplete abortion. As compared to yesterday, how is the bleeding today?

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for your answer.

Today is much better. My doctor said that it needs approximately 14 days. Today I do not have large blood clots until now, and in three hours, only a medium-sized circle of blood was present on the pad. I have a divided uterus, and he checked on the ultrasound yesterday. He said that the part that the embryo was inside was clean and that the other side of the uterus, the endometrium was thick, and bleeding must be from that.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

In a septate uterus, it is pretty common to have an incomplete abortion, especially when the embryo gets implanted near the corner. But as per your description, if the bleeding decreased from yesterday, the retained part could have been expelled along with the bleeding and clots. Also, you had done ultrasound yesterday, and there was nothing. I suggest waiting for one week and observing if the bleeding is decreasing. It should stop within this week. If you feel the bleeding is increasing and the same even after a week, you should consult your nearby gynaecologist. If there is pain, take the tablet Zerodol-SP (Aceclofenac, Paracetamol and Serratiopeptidase).

Hope this information helps you. Feel free to ask further queries.

Thank you.
