Can trauma cause crown dislodgement or inner tooth damage?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Actually, I have a cap on my two front teeth. Two days ago, I was watching a movie on my mobile. Suddenly, the mobile slipped from my hand and fell on my mouth, and it hit the front cap.

Since that day, I have been thinking whether my inner teeth are broken or not.

Please resolve my query.

Kindly help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Breakage in the inner tooth can be diagnosed in several ways; however, the most accurate methods remain X-rays and a thorough clinical examination.

These approaches allow a dentist to clearly evaluate the internal structure of the tooth and determine whether any fracture or damage is present.

Following an impact, it is quite common to experience some level of discomfort. However, this symptom alone does not provide a definite diagnosis of a fracture or breakage.

In many cases, such discomfort may simply be due to a temporary inflammatory response of the tooth and surrounding tissues, rather than any structural damage.

To help exclude the possibility of a fracture, I suggest taking Ibuprofen 600 mg (milligrams) every six hours for two consecutive days, but only if you are currently experiencing discomfort or tenderness. This can help manage inflammation and any associated symptoms during this period. If you are not experiencing any discomfort, there is no need for concern, and you may simply carry on as usual.

That said, if you notice pain while biting or any mobility in the affected tooth, it is important to visit your dentist for further examination and appropriate evaluation.

I hope you are satisfied with my answer. For further queries, you can consult me at iCliniq.

Thank you.
