Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I took five Biogesic mixed with an aerated drink and two Bioflu plus one Biogesic mixed with an energy drink at night yesterday. What will happen to me?
Kindly help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and can understand your concern.
It sounds like you took a large amount of Biogesic (which contains Paracetamol or Acetaminophen) and Bioflu (which contains Paracetamol, Phenylephrine, and Chlorphenamine) within a short period of time, along with caffeinated energy drinks.
This combination can be dangerous, mainly because of Paracetamol overdose and the stimulant effects of caffeine. Too much paracetamol can seriously harm your liver, sometimes without symptoms right away.
You might initially feel nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, dizziness, or tiredness, but liver damage can appear hours to days later as yellowing of the skin, dark urine, or abdominal pain.
The energy drinks and cold medicine can also cause heart palpitations, anxiety, restlessness, or high blood pressure.
You should seek medical attention immediately, even if you feel fine at the moment. Doctors can perform a blood test to check your liver and determine if you need an antidote called N-acetylcysteine (NAC), which is most effective when administered early.
Please do not wait for symptoms to appear. Go to the nearest emergency department or call for help right away, and bring the medication packages with you so the healthcare team can see exactly what you took.
I hope this helps.
Thank you and take care.
Regards.
