How to stop my daughter's persistent dry cough?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My daughter is 12 years old. She has a dry cough since 10 days. The doctor says that it is rhinitis. Her URT is congested and getting continuous dry coughing. The prescription given is tablet Telekast, spray Nasonex, syrup Chericof and also tab Dompan SR. But, the medicines are not working. I want to stop her from coughing.

Please help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

1. With the symptoms you have stated, it looks like your child has an allergic disorder.

2. You can continue the same medications as prescribed by your doctor. Sometimes, cough lingers for a longer time than usually expected.

3. Avoid polluted environment, cigarette smoke (passive smoking), etc., which might trigger a cough in your child.

4. Ask your child to do regular exercises to maintain an optimal weight of around 79 lbs for a 12 year old.

5. If not getting better, you can consult an allergy specialist or a pediatric pulmonologist or psychiatrist for further evaluation and treatment.

Thank you.
