Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
The skin becomes dry after a bath, and after four to five days, it gets a little oily, especially in winter. Hands often look like those of an 80-year-old in winter. Kindly suggest a face wash and moisturizer for winter.
Thanks.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I can understand your concern.
I understand how uncomfortable and frustrating it can be to experience excessive dryness, roughness, and wrinkling of the skin, especially during the winter months. Based on your history, age, and symptoms, your skin appears to be xerotic (dry skin) with winter exacerbation, which is quite common and not related to any underlying medical illness in your case. Your skin tends to lose moisture immediately after bathing, and after four to five hours, it produces a little oil but still feels rough. This happens because frequent bathing, harsh soaps, and cold weather damage the skin barrier, causing water loss. The hands are especially vulnerable, which is why they may appear very dry and aged during winter. This condition is completely manageable with the right skincare routine and avoidance of irritants.
For cleansing, kindly switch to a mild, non-drying soap such as sensitive bar and strictly avoid antibacterial or medicated soaps, as they worsen dryness. For your face, use a gentle cleanser.
After washing, apply a moisturizer immediately while the skin is slightly damp. Using suitable options for winter will help restore the skin barrier and reduce roughness. For your body and hands, apply Hyaluronic acid gel generously after every shower and also after washing your hands, especially in winter. Regular and repeated application is key. Try to bathe with lukewarm water instead of hot water, keep showers short, and gently pat dry instead of rubbing the skin. With consistent care and the right products, your skin texture and comfort should improve significantly within a few weeks.
I hope this information will help you.
Thanks.
