Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had undergone cervical spine surgery recently and still have difficulty swallowing. Also, there is a pus collection around the incision and itching. I have been on the following medications: Wellbutrin, Zanaflex, Oxycodone, Protonix, Pepcid, Lexapro, Results, and Topamax.

Kindly help.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

I underwent spine surgery in c5, c6, and c7 due to degeneration between the discs. I am not on any antibiotic course, and my body temperature is 97.8 degrees Fahrenheit.

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

After reviewing your X-rays and images (attachment removed to protect patient's identity), I conclude that I do not see any pus spot, and the margins of the wound appear clear. There is a little gap in the continuity of the wound margin but no pus along the margins. Also, you do not have a fever is a good sign. The swallowing problem would go away and may be related to subcuticular suturing done on the lateral aspect of the neck. I suggest you apply T. Bact (mupirocin) ointment twice daily over the margin to prevent any possible bacterial infection.

Besides that, the wound appears healthy and will heal soon.

I hope this helps.

Thank you and take care.
