What are the causes of eagle syndrome and jugular vein compression?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 51-year-old female with a height of 5 feet 8 inches and a weight of 145 lbs. I have Eagle syndrome with left internal jugular vein compression, but the right internal jugular vein is slightly compressed.

I have had a sharp stabbing pain in my head for the past month. I got three TIAs (transient ischemic attacks) with stroke-like symptoms, such as slurred speech, right-sided weakness, and right-sided facial drooping, in the past 18 months.

The CT (computed tomography) report shows no blood clot. I got an appointment with the doctor next month.

Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Severe jugular vein compression causes a stroke. Therefore, it is better to consult a specialist.

Please revert in case of any doubts.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor for the reply,

Please provide a detailed explanation.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Although it is a rare condition, it can recover with treatment. Your symptoms are not related to a malignant lesion.
