Is a heart murmur normal with a clear echocardiogram?

The echocardiogram report shows a small subaortic membrane with mean gradients of 18 mm Hg and peak gradients of 28 mm Hg. It also says SAM (likely systolic anterior motion). The rest of the echo findings are normal. No need to worry about this. A small subaortic membrane with normal pressure gradients, even in the presence of systolic anterior motion, is not a serious thing. The only thing you need to do is repeat the echo every six to 12 months to monitor the progression of the membrane and SAM, as the membrane may grow and pressure gradients increase.

The best doctor to consult for this would be a pediatric cardiologist. He will take a detailed history and do a physical examination, including auscultation of heart sounds. But as far as this echo report is concerned, it is not an emergency condition. Symptoms in the child need to be addressed with symptomatic medicines. Have you done an echo before, also? What are the symptoms? Why was an echo done?

Echo clips show turbulence (gradient) at aortic valve as seen in color Doppler imaging. They have calculated gradients, which are not high. No need to worry. Repeat echo after six to 12 months.
