Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am 19, and I am asking about my younger sister, who is 16 and has eczema on her hands and face. She has been getting teased at school because of her skin, and it is affecting her confidence a lot.
I keep wondering how I deal with being bullied because of my eczema skin at 16, as she sometimes does not want to go to school. We are managing her treatment, but emotionally, it is becoming difficult.
Are there ways to help her cope better or improve her skin appearance faster?
Please help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I have read your query and understand your concern.
I understand your concern. Eczema (a condition that causes your skin to become dry, itchy, and bumpy) in adolescents can have a significant emotional impact, especially when it affects visible areas like the face and hands.
It is important to support her emotionally. Encourage her to talk to a trusted teacher or school counselor about the bullying so that it can be addressed. Reassure her that eczema is a medical condition and not related to hygiene.
For improving skin appearance, proper treatment and skin care are essential. Mild topical medications, as prescribed by a doctor, can help control inflammation. Regular use of moisturizers multiple times a day, especially after washing, is important.
Avoid triggers such as harsh soaps, frequent sanitizers, and fragranced products. Barrier-repair creams can help improve skin texture over time.
If her symptoms are frequent or affecting daily life, a follow-up with a dermatologist may be needed to adjust treatment for better control.
I hope you are satisfied with my answer.
