How do I manage eczema spreading across my face?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I do not know what has been coming out on my face for the past few weeks. I thought it was normal eczema, so I treated it as eczema, but I have seen no improvement. The problem is now spreading all over my face.

Kindly advise.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

I believe these are atopic dermatitis skin patches, also called eczema. Here is a breakdown of what might be happening and how to approach it beyond temporary fixes:

  • Hormonal imbalance may be the reason, especially if acne worsens around the time of menstruation, during periods of stress, or appears on the jawline or chin.

  • Oily skin and clogged pores. Creams alone may not be sufficient if your skin is naturally oily.

  • Diet and gut health, high sugar, dairy, or processed foods may worsen inflammation.

  • Incorrect skincare, harsh products, or over-washing can damage the skin barrier.

Long-term treatment options (stronger but effective):

  • Topical Tacrolimus Cream 0.2 percent (calcineurin inhibitor).

  • Topical Clobetasol Ointment 0.05 percent (corticosteroid) once daily.

  • Topical Hydrocortisone Cream 0.2 percent (corticosteroid) twice daily for one month.

I hope you are satisfied with my answer. For further queries, you can consult me.

Thank you.
