What are the ways to maintain a firm erection?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 33-year-old male. I find it challenging to achieve and maintain a firm erection for satisfactory sexual intercourse. I have noticed a decrease in my sexual desire and overall interest in intimacy, which is affecting my relationship and self-esteem. Despite attempting lifestyle changes, such as improving my diet and exercise routine, I have not seen significant improvements. I am seeking your expertise to evaluate my situation and recommend appropriate steps to address my concerns.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

Your symptoms suggest that it can be due to erectile dysfunction. We need to evaluate the cause. Consult with a sexologist or general physician and plan for the following tests:

1. CBC (complete blood count).

2. LFT (liver function test).

3. RFT (renal function test);

4. TFT (thyroid function test).

5. Urine complete test.

6. Serum testosterone levels.

If there are any issues with these tests, we need to plan medicine accordingly.

Most erection issues happen due to anxiety. Choose an appropriate place for sex with no disturbance. Make sure you and your partner are fully naked before sex. The room should not be cold; it will shrink the penis. Always have very dim light, so you can only see the shape of your partner. Admire your partner during sex. Give your partner an orgasm (read about female orgasm) before asking for foreplay from your partner. You should receive at least 15 minutes of foreplay from your partner. During foreplay, your partner should always hold your penis and give strokes like masturbation, but very slow strokes should be continued till you insert it into the vagina. Most men do not prefer to talk during sex because of concentration issues. Subconscious words like love you and sexy can be there, but strictly no complicated words or maths. Always start with a missionary position; it is advisable post-childbirth. Try scissors or doggy positions.

List of exercises:

  1. Kegel.
  2. Glute bridge.
  3. Reclined butterfly pose.
  4. Lying leg raise.
  5. Plank.
  6. Push up.
  7. Hip flexor lunge.
  8. Swimming.
  9. Running or fast walking for five minutes.
  10. Yoga.

Food:

  1. Strawberry.
  2. Apple.
  3. Avocado.
  4. Sweet potato.
  5. Sesame seed.
  6. Almonds.
  7. Garlic.
  8. Little chocolate.
  9. Avoid smoking and alcohol.

I hope I have answered your question.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards.
