Erosive Lichen Planus

Erosive lichen planus is a painful and chronic condition that affects the mucous membrane of the mouth or the genitals. Erosive lichen planus appears as ulcers. In females, it can affect the labia minora (the inner lip of the vagina), which will appear as a red layer and can be painful. In males, it can occur at the end of the penis and appear raw and tender. Topical steroids such as Clobetasol propionate can be used for genital erosions. Hydrocortisone foam can be applied to the affected areas of the anus and vagina. Calcineurin inhibitors like Tacrolimus ointment, if applied twice daily for weeks, help heal erosive lichen planus faster.
