Why do I have rashes throughout my feet and fingers?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have a rash that I thought was a mosquito bite. But now they have spread throughout my feet and fingers. The rash is raised, red, and clustered. I have been applying steroid cream, but there has been no change. There are about 40 bumps on my hands and 20 on my feet. My fingers are swollen without any other symptoms. No rash anywhere else, no fever, sore throat, aching muscles, itchiness, or dry skin. What could be the reason?

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for your query.

I understand your concern. From the clinical pictures (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity), it seems your skin lesion is due to erythema multiforme. It is a common self-limiting inflammatory skin condition. The main cause of this type is herpes virus infection.

Do you have any history of cold sores or genital herpes? Or it can be due to an allergic reaction to other bacterial or viral infections or to any medication you took. Usually, this type of minor form subsides in one to two weeks. I suggest you take the tablet Prednisone 10 mg twice daily for five days. If there is any history of herpes infection, take the tablet Zovirax 400 mg thrice daily for five days. Follow up in one week.

I hope this has helped you.

Thank you.
