Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I have been experiencing eye floaters for the past five years. The others are transparent, which I only see in the sky, but the black dot floater comes on my phone screen, and I feel like it teases me a lot.
How to treat it. Can a laser be helpful?
Kindly suggest.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand how bothersome floaters can be, especially when they interfere with daily activities like reading or using your phone.
Floaters are small clumps of gel or cells inside the vitreous, the clear gel that fills the back of the eye.
They usually result from natural age-related changes in the eye or earlier vitreous changes. Floaters are more noticeable against bright backgrounds, such as the sky or a white wall.
Since this floater is new, appears in your central vision, and is noticeable indoors, it is important to have a thorough retina examination. Sometimes, a new dark floater can indicate a small bleed or a retinal tear, which requires prompt attention.
Most floaters are harmless and do not require treatment. Over time, the brain often adapts and “ignores” them.
In selected cases, when floaters are very dense and significantly affect vision, treatments like laser Yttrium-Aluminum-Garnet. Vitreolysis or vitrectomy surgery can be considered.
However, these procedures carry risks and are usually reserved for severe or persistent cases.
I strongly recommend visiting a retina specialist to rule out any underlying retinal issues. If no problem is found, your doctor can guide you on whether observation or treatment is appropriate for your situation.
I hope this information helps you.
Thank you.
