Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
My skin has a little lighter patch on the nose, but not white, just a shade lighter. I had been applying a Clinskin cream (a combination of three medicines: Hydroquinone, Mometasone, and Tretinoin) when it happened. Now, I am worried that it is a serious issue.
Kindly suggest.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
It sounds like the lighter patch on your nose could be caused by the Clinskin cream (a combination of three medicines: Hydroquinone, Mometasone, and Tretinoin), which likely contains ingredients like steroids, antifungals, or antibiotics. The possible cause of the lighter patch could be steroid-induced skin lightening, which is possible if Clinskin contains a mild steroid; it can temporarily lighten the skin in that area. Another reason could be post-inflammatory hypopigmentation. If you used it on acne or irritation, the skin might have lightened slightly as part of the healing process. Apart from this, some creams can cause temporary skin tone changes if they irritate the skin. The less likely reason could be a fungal infection. Some fungal conditions (like tinea versicolor) cause mild light patches, but they are usually scaly.
What you can do is stop using Clinskin for a few days and see if the patch returns to normal on its own. Moisturize the area by using a gentle, fragrance-free moisturizer to help the skin heal. Apply sunscreen daily (SPF 30+), as this prevents the patch from getting more noticeable due to sun exposure. Avoid scrubbing the area and let it heal naturally. See a doctor if the patch gets larger or spreads. If it becomes red, itchy, or scaly, or if it does not fade after a few weeks. Most steroid-related lightening is temporary and fades once you stop using the cream. Let me know if you want help choosing a gentle cream to speed up healing!
I hope this helps.
Thank you.
