Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
My 7-year-old daughter is not able to eat well. She does not chew the food properly and keeps food in her mouth for so long, and drinks water to swallow food. She does not eat biscuits, chocolate, and other junk foods.
Kindly help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and understand your concern.
You need to consult the nearest pediatrician to rule out the organic causes of your child's inability to chew the food properly. It may occur due to sensory impairment, nerve injury, or sore throat. If there is no organic cause, your daughter may have a feeding disorder and pocketing of food in her cheeks. You need to teach her to take small bites of food, take water sip with food, and increase the frequency of small meals in a whole day. If there is still no improvement, it will be better if you take her to the nearest psychologist for sessions.
Please let me know if you have any other queries.
Thank you.
