How to manage a severe cough in kids?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have given Paracetamol to my daughter. She slept well, breathing normally, and coughed overnight. She is taking proper care of herself and sleeping well. But I feel a little heat in her body. Please help.

Thanks.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.

As per the information provided, it goes in favor of a viral infection and needs only symptomatic treatment. If fever recurs, use Paracetamol, which can be given every four hours if needed. You have not mentioned the child's age and weight. Is the child taking feeds properly and passing urine well, or is there any nasal discharge or nose block? Please share all this information. I will advise you if any other medicine is required, as well as the dose.

I hope this information will help you.

Thanks.
