How to treat fever in kids?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My 5-month-old baby has had a temperature ranging from 105 farenhite for three days. She has no cold or cough, her feces appear normal, and she has no rashes, but she does have little patches on the inside of her cheeks.

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.

If the temperature is 97.7 degrees Fahrenheit or more, you can give Syrup paracetamol DS 240 mg/ml (dose as per the child's weight) SOS four to six hourly. If the temperature is 101.84 Fahrenheit or more, you can give syrup an Ibugesic dose as per the weight of the child SOS for six to eight hours. Since the child has been having a fever for three days now, it would be best to start an antibiotic like Syrup amoxicillin/clavulanate potassium 600 mg/5 ml (dose as per the weight of the child) twice a day for five days along with Syp. Nicotinamide (dose as per the weight of the child) twice a day for five days. Both amoxicillin/clavulanate potassium and Nicotinamide are powders that include markings that indicate how much water should be mixed with them at room temperature. The mixture must be kept in the refrigerator; otherwise, the medicine will spoil.

Take care

Thank you
