Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I have a friend who has had fibroids for 27 years. She went through an operation but again it recurred to a point where she was told the only option was the removal of the uterus. Is there any treatment that shrinks the fibroids? Because she is not ready for the second procedure. Could you please help us with this?
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
Fibroids are usually the non-cancerous benign growth of mass in the lining of the uterus. Usually, it is harmless but due to vascularisation (presence of blood), an increased, excessive amount of menstrual bleeding is seen during periods as the uterus sheds its inner lining during the end of the menstrual cycle. If it is more sickening, making one feel tired and sick can cause anemia and its symptoms and increased anemic symptoms, which can be fatal in the future.
For the shrinkage of fibroids in the uterus, there are drugs like Anastrazole, Letrozole, Leuprolide, Lupron depot, Goserelin, Triptorelin, Linzagolix, Danazol, Gestrinone, Progestins, Mirena IUD (intrauterine device) with iron supplements, and Tranexamic acid support. Any of these can effectively be beneficial in the shrinkage of fibroids and in reducing menstrual bleeding. Before starting any of these, a biopsy of the fibroid to determine which type of fibroids are, and a physical checkup and physical fitness are required. It is better to consult a gynecologist and endocrinologist at a physical level and get physical fitness that is knowing which medicine can suit you best and can go along with them.
I hope this helps.
Let me know if you have any other concerns.
Thank you.
