Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I have been experiencing food allergies with almost every type of food. My eosinophil count is 740 cells per microlitre. I have been taking Atarax 25 milligrams as prescribed by my doctor, but there has been no improvement for the past six months. What could be the reason for this persistent condition, and what should I do next?
Kindly suggest.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern. You mentioned that you are allergic to almost all types of food, and your eosinophil count is elevated. However, you did not specify the exact symptoms you experience after consuming certain foods. This information is important for a more accurate assessment.
The first step you should take is to undergo a comprehensive food allergy test panel, which includes both vegetarian and non-vegetarian food items. This will help identify the specific foods you are allergic to.
Avoiding the allergens identified through this test is the first and most important step in managing food allergies.
Medication provides only temporary relief and is mainly used to control symptoms when they occur.
Common food allergens often include milk or egg proteins, legumes such as beans and peas, pulses like lentils, and various processed food products.
Once the allergens are identified, it is essential to eliminate those items from your diet completely.
If you still experience symptoms despite avoiding known allergens, you may take the following treatments for relief:
Take a 25-milligram tablet of Atarax (Hydroxyzine) or a 5-milligram tablet of Desloratadine once at night.
Progurt sachet (a high-strength probiotic supplement that supports gut health and immune balance), one daily, to help maintain gut health.
Cromolyn Sodium (Cromal Rotacaps), one capsule inhaled twice daily before meals.
Please remember that food allergy is a chronic condition, and avoiding the trigger foods is the most effective long-term strategy. Medications are supportive and meant for symptom management only.
I hope this information helps you.
Thank you.
