What is the treatment for food poisoning?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I was suffering from food poisoning, which caused me to have nausea, diarrhea, and fever. It went away after a few days, but ever since then, I have had constipation and diarrhea. I feel sick every time I eat, no matter what it is, for hours. Yesterday, when I woke up, I was constipated with bad bloating and stomach pain all day. Do you know what is going on or how to fix it? This is affecting my day-to-day life.

Kindly help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Based on your symptoms, I believe you have irritable bowel disease (IBS), an intestinal disorder causing stomach pain, diarrhea, and constipation. I can see you are not vomiting, but there is bloating. Is there any history of the passage of bloody stool or mucus stool? Please do stool ova and parasite and reply to me with the result. I suggest you to follow a few instructions mentioned below:

  1. Take syrup liquid paraffin 20 ml.

  2. Take a tablet of Simethicone (antacid) 180 mg.

  3. Take a tablet of Metronidazole 400 mg.

  4. Take a tablet of Hyoscine butyl bromide 10 mg.

  5. Take a tablet of Diphenoxylate or Atropine (Lomotil) 5 mg or 0.05 mg after every six hours.

Schedule another appointment for follow-up via chat, phone, or video consultation.

I hope this information will help you.

Thanks.
