My son has cephalohematoma after forceps delivery. Will it ever go?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My son's birth was traumatic and rotational forceps were used. He developed two bumps on either side of his head. We were told that this was normal after a forceps birth. He is now nearly 5 years old, and the bumps are still there. I have read up as much as I can and believe them to be cephalohematomas. But, I cannot find anything about them lasting this long. Will they ever go, and should we be worried about them? Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com. Cephalohematoma after forceps delivery is very common, but cannot remain up to 5 years. Is child having any symptom related to head? Are you worried just by looking at those bumps? I suggest you visit pediatrician in person with all previous details for clinical examination pertaining to that bumps.
