Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
One of my two front teeth sits slightly behind the other, making my smile look uneven, and I would like both teeth to be properly aligned and balanced. I have visible gaps between my upper teeth, large enough that a coin can fit between them, which makes the spacing medium too large, and I want these gaps to be closed naturally rather than simply covered.
My lower teeth are small and spaced, and I want to protect them and avoid the need for implants in the future. My goal is to get braces that are effective yet gentle in appearance; I prefer ceramic braces because they are tooth-colored and less visible, and I would like to avoid bonding or fillings unless they are truly necessary.
I would like to know whether a power chain will be needed to close the gaps, how long the treatment will take to align my teeth and close the spaces, and whether getting braces is the right option for me.
Please help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
Braces are an excellent option for you at your age because your teeth and jaw are still developing, which makes treatment more effective. Ceramic braces are a popular choice if you want something less noticeable, as they blend in with the colour of your teeth.
To close the gaps between your teeth, orthodontists often use a power chain, which is a special elastic with interconnected elastic rings attached to the braces. This gently draws the teeth together gradually, helping the spaces close naturally without the need for fillings or bonding unless necessary.
Treatment usually lasts from one to two years, depending on the size of the gaps, any other bite issues, and how quickly your teeth shift. Smaller gaps may close within a few months, but aligning all your teeth properly and protecting your lower teeth will take longer. If you prefer an even more discreet option, clear aligners are another choice.
These are transparent trays that fit over your teeth and are almost invisible, though they need to be worn consistently to work well. With regular check‑ups, your orthodontist will adjust your braces or provide new aligner sets to keep everything moving correctly. By the end of treatment, your teeth should look straighter, more balanced, and healthier, giving you the smile you are hoping for.
I hope this helps.
Kindly follow up if you have more concerns.
Thank you.
