Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I had some chinese food from a place I had never eaten previously for lunch. I was fine. Later that night, I ate crab legs around 11 pm. I stood up for a while and then went to sleep. I woke up at 5 am the next day feeling queasy and bloated, and my stomach was hurting. I went upstairs to use the bathroom and moved my bowels. After, I stood up for a while and drank some water. Next, my stomach started to hurt again, and I had to move my bowels again. I used the bathroom about four times that morning. I eventually went back to sleep, but when I woke up to get ready for work, I was feeling queasy. I still went to work and ate something light for lunch, like soup, but I still felt queasy. My stomach is not hurting at this point. For the next few days, I feel discomfort in my stomach, but as each day passes, it felt better than the day before. However, I still feel something slightly whenever I eat. It is going to pass eventually, but I am not sure. When I was younger, I had food poisoning that lasted for a few days with the same symptoms. Please advice.

Hi,

Welcome to the icliniq.com.

I will help to guide you further regarding your complaint. According to history, it is a case of food poisoning that is acute gastroenteritis. Here infection might not be resolved completely, so pain can be there. It is advisable to investigate with stool routine micro examination to check pus cells, bacteria, parasite egg, etc., if present. I suggest you take an antibiotic course of Ofloxacin and Ornidazole for five days. Drink lots of water. Viral Zithromax (Azithromycin) powder with water can be taken for three to four days to replenish lost electrolytes. Avoid excess spicy foods. Antacids like Rabeprazole 20 mg once daily for five days can be taken. A probiotic tablet containing Lactobacillus can be taken for a week. Consult a specialist doctor, discuss with them, and take medications with their consent.

Kindly follow up for further assistance. Feel free to ask further if required.

Thank you.
