Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I’ve been dealing with GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease) for a few years now. I’ve had several tests done, and everything seems to be normal. I had an endoscopy about two years ago. I currently take Nexium (Esomeprazole) once a day.
Now and then, I go through a flare-up where my GERD symptoms become more noticeable and last for about a week. During these episodes, nothing I take seems to help. I’m not sure if it’s due to stomach irritation, like gastritis, or if it’s related to stress since I’m currently under a lot of it.
Could this be something serious?
I would appreciate your help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I’ve read your query and completely understand your concern.
It sounds like you’re experiencing occasional GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease) symptoms that are being triggered or worsened by stress, which is quite common. This is not a gastric issue; your symptoms are consistent with GERD.
When your symptoms flare up, you can take Nexium (Esomeprazole) twice daily for about a week. This should help manage the discomfort.
Regarding your concern about Barrett’s esophagus, since your endoscopy was standard two years ago, there’s no need to worry. In cases like yours, a repeat endoscopy is generally not required for another 5 to 10 years.
It also seems like anxiety about your symptoms may be contributing to how you’re feeling. Try to manage stress, as it can play a significant role in symptom flare-ups.
I hope this helps.
Please follow up so I can assist you further.
Thank you.
