Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I am 55 years old. I have noticed dark patches on my glans and some growth on the foreskin of my penis.
Please guide.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and understand your concerns.
I have reviewed your picture (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity), and it appears that you may be experiencing swelling in the glans of your penis. This could be related to an allergic reaction or a fungal infection.
If you have engaged in unprotected sexual intercourse, it is important to consider the possibility of a sexually transmitted infection (STI). You might want to get tested based on your contact history for the following:
Treponema pallidum hemagglutination test.
Herpes simplex virus (HSV) types 1 and 2.
Herpes simplex virus (HSV) types 1 and 2 IgM, serum
Chlamydia trachomatis.
HIV types 1 and 2 antibodies, screening test
Complete urine analysis.
If there is no history of unprotected sex, the situation may involve a simple bacterial infection. In this case, you can apply an ointment such as Mupirocin (T-Bact) locally and take Doxycycline 100 mg twice daily for five days.
If you are experiencing itching, it could indicate a fungal infection. For this, use Candid B (Clotrimazole and Beclomethasone) ointment for local application and take Cetirizine once a night for itching relief.
Make sure to wash your genital area twice a day, in the morning and at night, using normal water (avoid very cold or hot water). Also, refrain from using heavy pH soaps.
Please review the situation again with the test results.
I hope this answers your query. Feel free to reach out anytime.
Thank you.
