What to do if glaucoma is not improving with eye drops?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My father has been struggling with glaucoma for the past seven years. It started six years ago but got worse in recent years. We have used Latanoprost and a combination of Timolol and Latanoprost prescribed by an eye doctor, but glaucoma is not improving well. He can see very well; he said sometimes his eyes are colored, and sometimes his vision is cloudy.

Please help.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for writing, and I understand your concern.

Actually, if symptoms are increasing even after taking medications, then you can go for surgery. Surgery is the best solution for glaucoma (a group of eye diseases that can cause blindness by damaging the optic nerve). The other risk factor is hypertension (high blood pressure). So if he has hypertension, you should take proper medication for his blood pressure.

Clouding is a feature that indicates that glaucoma is not under control. So you should keep checking the pressure. Otherwise, a sudden rise may lead to further complications.

I hope this helps.

Please let me know if you want some help.

Thank you.
