Can a child's height be predicted from their parents' heights?
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am a 14 year old girl my height is 161 cm. My dad is 175 cm and my mom is 157 cm is there a possibility that I can be 165? The girls on my father's side are taller than me, maybe about 7 cm and they got their periods later than me. My aunts are also around 164 cm in height. My cousin's daughter is the same age as me, her mother is 150 and her father is a little taller than my father, but he is taller than me, I feel very short can I be taller? Kindly help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I can understand your concern.Your current height of 161 cm is normal for your age. Based on your parent's heights (father: 175 cm, mother: 157 cm), your expected adult height is approximately 161 cm, with a possible range of ±7 cm. Given your age (14.6 years) and that you started your period at 11.9 years, you might still grow for a couple of years. Genetics play a significant role in determining your height.
- Ensure you get enough proteins, calcium, and vitamins. Eat a variety of fruits, vegetables, and dairy products.
- Engage in regular physical activities to promote healthy growth and muscle development.
- Aim for eight to ten hours of sleep per night for optimal growth hormone release.
- It's common for girls to grow two to three years after starting their period.
I hope this information will help you.
Thank you.
