How to prevent seasonal hairfall?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a student in 11th grade, currently 16, and I have been facing seasonal hair loss. I did not experience any throughout the year, but due to my oily scalp and buildup in the winters, I lost a lot of it, about 100 hairs per wash day. My family's hair genetics are not quite good, my dad lost all his hair at age 40. I kind of think this is occurring due to stress, hormonal imbalance, or malnutrition. But I do not exactly know what, so I am listing a few symptoms and types of my hair below, please let me know what other things you would like to know to judge my hair. I have done a lot of research to get to this.

  1. My hair type is: Oily a day after washing. Fine (not much thickness as in diameter of a single strand), moderate amount of hair. Very silky and easy to comb through.

  2. My hair fall or shedding pattern: Losing 80 to 100 strands of hair on wash day and before washing. Losing two or three strands of hair every time I run my hands through my hair.

  3. I do not oil my scalp as I have an oily scalp and read somewhere that oily scalp type does not need oiling.

  4. I wash my hair about twice a week with a shampoo I have been using for a long time

  5. What I think I might have: High sugar intake, high-stress level, and low protein in the diet.

  6. Also, I live in a very warm country and the weather here in summer hits the head. Please suggest what I can do because this is getting out of hand.

Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.

Avoid hair oiling. I will prescribe some medicine that will take three to five months.

Probable diagnosis: Telogen effluvium.

Treatment plan: Tablet Biotin 5 mg at night, Bontress Pro serum twice daily, keraglo AD shampoo twice per week for two months.

Regarding follow-up: Two months.

I hope this helps.

Kindly follow up if you have more concerns.

Thank you.
