Do HCG injections cause periods or withdrawal bleeding?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am a woman aged 31 years, and I am planning to conceive for 10 months. My doctor gave me an HCG injection of 1000 IU, then Clomid, then Duphaston for 15 days. Yesterday was my last dose, and the next morning, I saw a brown discharge. I have seen a sticky, dark brown discharge. I want to know if it is periods or just withdrawal bleeding, and if I have conceived.

Thanks.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.

The brown sticky discharge you are experiencing after finishing Duphastone is likely withdrawal bleeding, which can happen as your body adjusts after hormone treatment. It may not be a full period but a lighter, spotting-type bleeding. Since you have been trying to conceive for 10 months and have had treatments like HCG (human chorionic gonadotrophin) and Clomid, it is important to do a pregnancy test to check if you have conceived. Regular periods and no previous issues are good signs, but if bleeding changes or you experience pain, consult me.

I hope this information will help you.

Thanks.
