Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 61-year-old male. my HDL is 35 mg/dl, LDL is 48 md/dl, and VLDL is 15 mg/dl respectively. My height is 5 feet 7 inches and my weight is 185 pounds. Are my cholesterol parameters worrying?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read your query and would like to guide you in your query. Your lipid profile test is normal, sir. Your lipid subtypes lab values are within the normal limit. Also, HbA1c is 6.1% and is reduced in comparison to the earlier value. There is nothing to worry about it. I do not know why cholesterol parameters have worried you in spite of the values being in the normal reference range. I would suggest continuing the same medications you are taking before. Please follow up if you have any further related queries about it.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I was worried as HDL is low (35). I found that normal range is >40.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Your HDL level is 35 mg/dl. HDL (high-density level) cholesterol is often referred to as "good" cholesterol. HDL picks up excess cholesterol in your blood and takes it back to your liver, where it's broken down and removed from your body. HDL levels are typically lower in people who have clusters of conditions, including obesity, increased blood pressure, and high blood sugar levels. The only way to increase HDL level is to do daily aerobic exercise at least 45 minutes a day. Quit smoking and avoid trans fat from the diet. Do not worry about it. Just adhere to your medications regularly. Please follow up if you have any further related queries about it.

Thank you.
