What are the possible causes for worsening intermittent headaches?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have had intermittent headaches every morning for about six months now. They last for hours and feel like an inflating balloon in the center of my brain, behind my frontal lobe. I have had increased emotional swings and rising fatigue from day to day. At first, I thought I had the bipolar disorder because my moods could shift from hour to hour without warning. I am more sensitive to light and sometimes see lights, shadows, figures, etc. But the headaches are by far the most concerning part. My father's mother died of a brain tumor, and this is the only known example of such in our lineage. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Please help.

Thanks.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

From the available description, there is a high possibility of migraine along with tension headaches. This is because the pattern is more suggestive of a tension-type headache, while the nature of the headache indicates toward migraine headache. Having said this, I feel there is a need for the scan as family history can not be ignored.

I hope this information will help you.

Thanks.
