Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
My three-year-old daughter has had her hearing and speech tests, and she has been referred to an ENT specialist. Could you please provide advice based on the attached report?
Please guide me.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
First of all, there is nothing to worry about.
Let me explain in simple terms:
In the right ear, the child has minimal hearing loss, which might be due to a slight amount of fluid behind the eardrum, or retraction of the eardrum due to Eustachian tube dysfunction.
So now, the question is why the Eustachian tube is malfunctioning. Children up to the age of six and a half years usually have enlarged adenoids in the nose, which can block the opening of the Eustachian tube and cause its dysfunction, leading to fluid collection in the ear.
So the real question is whether these adenoids should be removed. We consider a few parameters: if the fluid does not disappear with nasal sprays and oral anti-allergy medications after two months, then we remove the adenoids endoscopically and place a small tube or grommet in the ear to drain the fluid, improving her hearing.
Since a child's speech development occurs within the first three and a half years, it is very important for her to hear all sounds correctly so that her speech is not affected

Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
Thank you for your reply.
So, it is nothing serious, like her going deaf in one ear?
Kindly help.
Thank you.
Hi
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
There is no need to be overly concerned, but hearing is very crucial for speech development at this age. If the condition does not resolve after two months of medical therapy, consider an adenoidectomy(surgical procedure to remove the adenoids, which are glands located in the upper part of the throat behind the nose.) with grommet insertion.

Thank you.
