Could heavy periods and fatigue be signs of anemia?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 37-year-old woman. I have been having extensive periods with a lot of blood. Also, my face looks pale, and I feel tired all day. Are these symptoms signs that the heavy blood flow is causing anemia? How can I know if I have a low blood count? Could these signs and symptoms be caused by something else? What kinds of tests can help figure out what is going on? I have had these symptoms for about six to seven months. I am married, and I have two kids. It would be very helpful if you could help me figure out and solve this problem.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read your query and understood your concern. Do not worry. The heavy bleeding you are experiencing may be causing anemia. This could be due to hormonal disturbances or an underlying infection. To obtain a clear diagnosis, it is recommended to undergo an abdominal ultrasound. Please let me know if you are experiencing any signs of infection. Additionally, do you have regular periods? Providing these details will help me provide more accurate advice. In the meantime, there are some dietary measures you can take. So, I suggest you include foods such as dates, beetroot, jaggery, and green leafy vegetables in your diet regularly. Meanwhile, I also suggest you take the medications mentioned below,

  1. Take one tablet of Orofer XT (Ferrous Ascorbate and Folic Acid) per day for 12 weeks.

  2. Take one tablet of Ostocalcium Plus (calcium, vitamin D3, and minerals) twice a day for 12 weeks.

Take two capsules of Evecare (herbal nutritional supplement) twice a day for six weeks.Kindly consult a specialist, talk with them, and take the medications with their consent. I hope this information is helpful. Feel free to ask any further questions.

Thanks and regards.
