Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had a normal period two weeks ago but now I am having a very heavy period with strange cramping, light headedness, and nausea. I am currently taking birth control pills also.

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

The reason for having heavy periods in mid-cycle may be due to missing any dose of birth control pills. Consumption of emergency contraceptive pills, at a young age there is less chance of any fibroid or adenomyosis. But to rule out pathology, I suggest you get an ultrasound scan of the uterus and ovaries.

I also would want to know the detailed history, if you are having any of the above.

I hope this has helped you.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

I have not missed any of my birth control doses and I am generally very consistent, so having vaginal bleeding this early is very concerning for me. As well, the cramping is not like my normal cramping and it is a constant pain throughout my lower stomach. I have never had this level of heavy flow (besides after having my son 6 years ago). I am very much concerned about this.

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome back to iCliniq.com.

I understand your concern. All the symptoms are suggestive of abnormal uterine bleeding or dysfunctional uterine bleeding.

I suggest you follow a few instructions mentioned below.

  1. To rule out any kind of polyp, endometriotic lesion, adenomyosis or fibroid get a USG (ultrasound scan) of the pelvis for the uterus and ovaries.

  2. Take tablet Tranexamic acid 500 mg. Take the tablet three times a day for three days.

  3. Take tablet Dicyclomine 10 mg. Take the tablet twice daily for three days.

  4. Take a tablet of Mefanemic acid 250 mg. Take the tablet two times a day for three days.

  5. Take tablet Ascorbic acid 500 mg. Take the tablet three times a day for three days.

  6. Exercise regularly.

  7. Yoga can be added along with exercises.

Kindly consult a specialist, talk to them, and take medications with their consent.

I hope this has helped you.

Thank you.
