What are the main treatment options available for hemophilia?
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am a 28-year-old man recently diagnosed with hemophilia, and I have many questions. What exactly is happening in my body? Which type of hemophilia do I have, and how severe is it? What are the main treatments available, and how often will I need them? Are there any activities or sports I should avoid? I am worried about the impact on my daily life; can I still work normally? What about travel? Also, I am planning to start a family soon. Is hemophilia hereditary, and what are the chances of passing it to my children? Are there any precautions my partner and I should take? Lastly, I have heard about gene therapy for hemophilia. Is this a viable option for me? What are the risks and potential benefits?
Please help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
Based on the above, kindly note that it is a bleeding disorder of genetic origin, and once you are confirmed on various pathology and genetic testing done for its type, your treatment procedure is directed depending upon the type A, B, and C. You need to avoid any sort of injury, even minute ones, which normally makes no impact on normal humans, but will drastically affect you.
You need extreme care about your body and follow medication as per your physician's advice.
Apart from these genetic treatment is also a good option, but also comes with adverse effects.
You can opt for alternative medicine along with regular treatment to minimize the severity of the disease.
I hope this helps.
Kindly follow up if you have more concerns.
Thank you.
