Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had been experiencing some light rectal bleeding for a few days. I was later diagnosed with hemorrhoids. I have had long-standing constipation for the past two years. The other thing is that I have noticed that around the inside of my rectum, the skin feels rough and irritated. Could this be proctitis? What to do?

Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I went through your query.

Based on your description, you may have developed hemorrhoids, which can be caused by factors such as straining during bowel movements, chronic constipation, and prolonged sitting or standing. Hemorrhoids can sometimes be missed during a rectal examination, especially if they are not large or obvious.

It is also possible that the rough and irritated skin inside your rectum is due to proctitis, which is inflammation of the lining of the rectum. Proctitis can be caused by a variety of factors, such as infection, inflammatory bowel disease, or trauma from straining during bowel movements.

The pain and hard stool you experienced about three weeks ago could be a sign of an anal fissure, which is a small tear in the skin around the anus. Anal fissures can be painful and may cause bleeding during bowel movements.

If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, I would recommend consulting with a healthcare provider for further evaluation and treatment. Depending on the specific diagnosis, treatment may include lifestyle changes such as increasing fiber intake, staying hydrated, and avoiding straining during bowel movements, as well as medications or procedures to manage symptoms like pain and bleeding.

Hope it helps.

Thanks and regards.
