Patient's Query
Hello doctor
I have three hernias and a mass in my throat. I am currently waiting to have a procedure done to determine what the mass is. Over the last two weeks, I have experienced episodes where I am standing, and then everything goes black, and I collapse. I am currently taking Bentyl medication and have undergone a CT (computed tomography) scan with contrast dye.
Kindly help.
Hello
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I have read your query and understand your concerns.
Thank you for sharing what you are going through. That sounds very serious, and I am truly sorry you are experiencing such a difficult time. The symptoms you have described, sudden blacking out and collapsing when standing, are not normal and require urgent medical attention, especially with your history of three hernias and a mass in the throat.
Fainting or losing consciousness like that could be caused by several things, such as low blood pressure (orthostatic hypotension) when standing up, heart rhythm problems or poor blood flow to the brain, compression or obstruction from the throat mass affecting breathing or blood vessels, severe anemia or dehydration, or nerve and neurological issues related to the mass or another underlying condition.
Given that this has been happening repeatedly, you should not wait. Please go to the emergency room or urgent care immediately. It is important they check your heart, brain, and circulation and monitor your oxygen levels and blood pressure.
Blacking out can be dangerous, not only because of the underlying cause but also due to potential injury when you fall. I know you are waiting for a procedure to evaluate the throat mass, but your new symptoms could indicate that things are changing, and early treatment could make a big difference.
Please do not delay. Go in for medical care today if you have not already.
I hope this helps.
Thank you
