How to address lethargy and body aches in steroid users?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 39-year-old male, currently using anabolic steroids, and I recently received my blood test results. My testosterone levels are elevated at 1800 ng/dl, with estradiol (E2) at 39 pg/ml, and cortisol at 20.88 ug/dl. Additionally, my thyroid function tests indicate normal levels of T3, T4, and TSH. Despite these results, I am experiencing persistent symptoms including low energy, neck ache, and a lack of self-confidence.

Further details from my blood test include a free testosterone level of 53.39 pg/ml and a hemoglobin level of 13.40 g/dl, with a total RBC count of 5.72. Despite these values being within normal range, I still feel lethargic, experience body aches, and lack the motivation to engage in workouts.

I am seeking guidance on how to address these symptoms and improve my overall well-being. Kindly help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.

After reviewing your lab results (attachments removed to protect patient identity), it appears that aside from elevated testosterone levels, other reports indicate normal findings. Excessive steroid use could potentially explain your fatigue.

I recommend undergoing additional tests including a vitamin D assessment, urinalysis (a diagnostic test that evaluates the physical, chemical, and microscopic properties of urine), and HbA1c (glycated hemoglobin) to gain a comprehensive understanding of your health status. Considering the potential adverse effects of anabolic steroids on bone health, such as bone demineralization and osteoporotic changes, it may be prudent to discontinue their use.

To address bone health concerns, start with calcium supplementation (600 mg/day) and vitamin D supplements (5000 IU/day) after completing the recommended tests, including a serum calcium evaluation. Did you check your blood pressure?

Please revert with the test results.

I hope this information will help you.

Thank you.
