HomeAnswersPulmonology (Asthma Doctors)hilar lymphadenopathyIs bilateral hilar adenopathy indicative of active infection?

I have a previous history of TB, and my X-ray shows bulky, dense hila. Should I be worried?

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am a healthy 42 years old male. During my annual medical check-up, in X-ray, both hila appeared bulky and dense. The impression of the test is hilar adenopathy. I was diagnosed with mild tuberculosis (TB) 17 years before. After taking medication, it got cured. I am under the following medications: 1) Rosuvastatin 10 mg for level two cholesterol. 2) Multivitamin tablet. 3) Fish oil tablet. 4) Vitamin-D tablet. Please help me.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com. It needs evaluation. Can you please send your X-ray and blood test reports? So that I can guide you accordingly.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you. I have enclosed the X-ray and blood test reports for your reference. Kindly give your opinion.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com. I have seen your reports (attachments removed to protect the patient's identity). There seems nothing to worry about in the report. There is hilar prominence, but it seems to be probably an old-healed lesion. You are asymptomatic as well. (Fever, weight loss, loss of appetite, cough, etc., are the symptoms). Hence, you can repeat your X-ray after three months and see. If you have any of the above symptoms persisting for more than two weeks or you are much worried about it, you may do a CECT (contrast-enhanced computed tomography) chest and rule out active disease. I hope this was helpful.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you.

I feel a bit relaxed now. I did not experience any symptoms that you have described. I am undergoing weight training for more than two years and feeling better in terms of health. But want to know does weight training cause above hilar prominence? Can I continue this weight training? And does tablet Rosuvastatin 10 mg have any effect on the above hilar prominence? Please give your opinion.

Answered by Dr. Jebin Abraham

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com. Weight training is not related to hilar prominence, so that you can continue it. Furthermore, hilar prominence has nothing to do with Rosuvastatin. You had a history of TB (tuberculosis). Most likely, the prominence appeared at that time and never have realized it. Most commonly, it can be a fibrosed lymph node (just like a scar of a wound). It is harmless and has nothing to do with your health now. You can keep yourself under follow-up. If the repeat X-ray after three months is identical, then there is no need for further check-ups. Meanwhile, we will investigate further if you develop any unusual symptoms that we can relate to hilar prominence. If you have any old X-rays, we can compare this one with that one and make sure of the diagnosis now itself. I hope this was helpful.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
