Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I have had bad results from hip replacement surgery. My pelvic bone was destroyed, so there is no joint on the right side. The right knee and calf are starting to rotate to the east.
Could you advise on the type of bed, as the one I have is breaking down on the inside (interior spring)? Please help.
Thank you.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query, and I am sorry to hear about your troubles. It can be a tough thing to manage.
Regarding the query about your bed, there are many types and brands available, all touting their own benefits. Also, I cannot recommend anything specific to you as I have not seen your medical records. Still, I can suggest a couple of things,
1) Use an air mattress on whichever bed you have so that it distributes your weight properly and prevents pressure sores.
2) The best bed for you would be one that has an option of lifting the foot end of the bed to 30 degrees and the head end (backrest elevation) of the bed to 45 %. Such types are generally known as "Fowler beds"
3) If you can afford it, there are some electric Fowler beds that give you a remote control to make it go up or down in height as well. I think you will find this feature very useful.
So talk to and confirm with your physical therapist which one is easily available and serviceable in your locality.
I hope that helps.
Thank you.
