Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am a 50-year-old woman experiencing hot flashes and night sweats. I have also noticed some concerning weight loss. Are these related? Can you suggest any remedies or treatments to help with these hot flashes? I am looking for relief as they are affecting my daily life. Please help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I can understand your concern.
This stage is seen when your hormone levels reduce, and so the symptoms start appearing like hot flushes, vaginal discharge, and heart problems. Apart from this, one may also have a low sexual drive. The chances of arthritis are also increased. This stage has to be managed by maintaining a healthy lifestyle through regular exercise. One should include fruits and salads in their diet, and intake of calcium should be increased.
As far as HRT (hormone replacement therapy) is concerned, it is taken when the above-mentioned symptoms affect your day-to-day activities, along with regular checkups. HRT has certain side effects like a decrease in bone density, nausea, and weight gain. One has to see the benefits and if necessary one cannot avoid it.
Bone density can be improved by eating more calcium-rich food along with vitamin D. As you know, sunlight is a very good source of vitamin D. An active lifestyle is the key to long and healthy menopause.
As far as weight loss is concerned, please get a Pap smear done for cervical cancer.
I hope this helps.
Thank you.
Regards.
